What We Do
CURATORIAL PRACTICE.
At Duran Art Projects, curatorial practice is conceived as a site of inquiry, mediation, and critical construction. It is through a research-intensive, artist-centered methodology that we seek to articulate exhibitions and projects that both contextualize and interrogate contemporary artistic production.
Our curatorial approach privileges collaboration without relinquishing critical authorship. We believe the curator’s role extends beyond facilitation into the co-construction of meaning — shaping exhibitions as discursive spaces where artistic practices, historical frameworks, and socio-political realities intersect. Each project is developed through sustained research, dialogical engagement with artists, and an acute attentiveness to the specificities of site, audience, and medium.
At DAP, exhibition-making is not reduced to display but understood as an epistemological practice: a means of generating new forms of knowledge and experience through visual and spatial dramaturgy. We employ curatorial strategies that include thematic juxtaposition, archival excavation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, always attentive to the possibilities of re-framing narratives and unsettling normative structures.
What We Do
CURATORIAL PRACTICE.
Our practice is deeply informed by a commitment to critical regionalism, with a particular focus on amplifying Iranian contemporary art within global circuits of discourse and display. However, we consciously resist essentializing frameworks, instead positioning Iranian art as part of a broader, transnational dialogue that acknowledges the complexity of artistic identity in a globalized world.
Research functions as a foundational axis for our curatorial work — often materializing not only through exhibitions but also through publications, discursive programs, and collaborative research initiatives. We are particularly invested in fostering long-term relationships with artists and intellectuals, enabling projects that unfold over extended temporalities and evolve through iterative processes.
At Duran Art Projects, we view curation as an active, living methodology — one that continually negotiates between historical consciousness, aesthetic experimentation, and critical responsibility. Through this practice, we aspire to cultivate spaces where art can unsettle, illuminate, and reimagine the cultural and political imaginaries of our time.
